The 156 Field Artillery Battalion had its own cartoonist, Sgt. Arnold C. Black. Black worked for a Boston newspaper before the war. During the conflict, he served in the 156 'Arty' message center and at that time composed hundreds of cartoons. This small sample is courtesy of Glenn Edquist, Headquarters Company, 156 F.A. Bn. The caricature in the 'Message Center' cartoon is that of the artist himself.
